I have known Damian Farnell since 2013 and worked closely with him on two significant projects in Western Australia in my capacity as Project Director and Project Manager. Both of these projects, namely the Roy Hill Remote Operations Centre and Headquarters building at Perth Airport, and the New Donnybrook Homestead project, were large and complex, with contract values of $50,000,000 and $35,000,000 respectively.
The Roy Hill project was procured under a Construction Management contract. This meant a high level of scrutiny and analysis was required in the tendering and letting of the sub-contracts throughout the project. These activities were admirably fulfilled by Damian in his role as site based Contract Administrator for Perkins Builders. The cost information was always well presented, detailed and accurate and was highly valued by the project team reporting to the client. In addition to these key duties, Damian assisted the Site Project Manager in the day to day running of the project, closely monitoring adherence to the program, and coordinating the trades on site. This landmark project was successfully completed within budget and ahead of program. This was significantly facilitated by Damian’s skills and professional input.
My interaction with Damian continued with the New Donnybrook Homestead project, where he was appointed by our client to monitor and coordinate completion of the works, procure and install the operating supplies and equipment, complete the client interior fit out, and prepare for occupation of the building. With a full time presence on site, Damian worked closely with the project team to facilitate practical completion of the contract, manage the construction of related works and complete the fit out. He also had an integral and invaluable role in ensuring the successful completion of a large number of building defects - Reuben Kooperman, Kooperman Project Management.
